About Us
The Open University Cyber Security Society started with a Facebook group on 21st September 2018, later expanding to a Discord server on 20th July 2019. It was founded by Open University students with a passion for cybersecurity. The OUCSS became an official Open University club on 6th October 2020.
As the club grew, it has become an active community of students from a variety of courses. Many members study R60 BSc (Honours) Cyber Security or Q62 BSc (Honours) Computing and IT or other STEM courses, but students from any Open University course are welcome to join. The Discord Server is where the main activity takes place!
We are dedicated to improving our skills, discussing concepts and networking with like-minded people. Many of our members use penetration testing platforms such as TryHackMe and Hack the Box, often choosing to join the InfOUsec team. We also compete in Capture the Flag competitions, which are a great way to show off and improve your skills. No prior knowledge is required; these are just for fun!
Although the club has a focus on learning, we also have channels dedicated to games and general chat. If you think you would like to know more about the OU cyber security society, come and join us!
